River Mekong is one of the largest rivers in the world, originating from China, flows through Laos , Myanmar , Thailand , Cambodia and pour the South China Sea in Vietnam .
As long as the 12th (7th in Asia ), and by flow No. 10 in the world (annual flow is about 475 million m³ ). Average flow of 13,200 m³ / s, the flood season can be up to 30,000 m³ / s. Basin of it is about 795,000 km ² (according to the Committee of the Mekong River ) or more than 810,000 km ² (according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica 2004 ). This river comes from the highland province Qinghai , crossed Tibet throughout the length provinces of Yunnan ( China ), through the country of Myanmar , Thailand , Laos , Cambodia before entering Vietnam . The aforementioned countries (excluding China) is located in the Mekong River Commission. Transportation by water on the Mekong River were difficult because the flow was changed with the season , the rapids and the waterfall high . Compared with tremendous potential if properly exploited, at present, only a small portion of the river is used for irrigation and capacity building hydropower . However, the flow rate of water and flood confer many benefits: high amplitude (about 30 times the difference between drought and flood season) to bring good way to cultivate rice fields flooded wide areas large.
